UL-2998 validated air cleaning technology
Natural Catalytic Converter (NCC) Technology
Underwriters Laboratory (UL Solutions) created the UL-2998 certification, as a new environmental standard to enable manufacturers to have their air cleaning technology tested, independently validated and guaranteed that their technology does not emit ozone.
This standard has been created as a result of some air cleaning companies marketing their Bipolar Ionisation, UV-C or Photocatalytic Oxidisation (PCO) technologies as zero ozone emitting technology, even though that might not actually be the case.
This can leave the public unaware, confused and unsure if the technology is actually a zero ozone emitting technology.
In the United States, globally recognised organisations such as ASHRAE, Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and Centre for Diseases Control and Prevention (CDC) have identified this problem. As a result, all three organisations recommend using these types of air cleaning technologies, only if they have been independently validated under UL-2998.

A UL-2998 validated technology is one that enables consultants and consumers to cut through certain companies marketing material and the confusion their marketing material can create. Consumers can trust UL-2998 validated technology is a zero ozone emitting technology, that’s better for their health.
If a Bipolar Ionisation, UV-C or PCO air cleaning technology has not been validated under UL-2998, the technology is likely to be an ozone producing technology that emits ozone at levels higher than the UL-2998 standard, and higher than ASHRAE, the CDC and the EPA recommend using in occupied spaces.
